How do Afro-Caribbean peoples resist stereotypes about their language as broken, their labour as disposable, and their knowledge-forms as uncultured? Say Mi Affi Work explores this question through sound and video installation, text- and performance- based pieces, and photography. The exhibition thinks through how these people’s everyday expressions and experiences make enigmatic, intricate, and expansive meanings. These meanings resist Global North master narratives about Black Caribbean (im)migrant labourers, their cultures, and the ways they communicate.
